During Bach's stay in Leipzig, the city's literary life revolved around Christiana Mariana von Ziegler. Mariana was a strong, intelligent, sensitive, and emancipated woman who turned her spacious Leipzig home into a meeting place for artists, writers, and musicians.

Johann Sebastian Bach, who was one of her close friends, chose several of von Ziegler's religious poems as librettos for his cantatas. Of the nine cantatas Christiana Mariana provided with text, BachPlus selected BWV 68, 87, and 176.
